Lance was set for sale on the 9th of November 2018, and was sold on the 5th of December 2018
We were in Mendoza, Argentina when we set Lance for sale, before that we had renovated all the interior while being stuck in Cordoba. When you live in a vehicle for 1 year things get worn since you live on very few square meters. Our plan was to sell Lance in the area of Santiago, Valparaiso or Viña del Mar so we had to get to that area. We were back on the road.
During the first 2 weeks after Lance had been set for sale, we were still on the road. We still had few things on our map, that we want to see. We also had more charcoal, so why not make a BBQ and enjoy a couple of local beers…
After saying good bye to our Chilean family in Los Angeles de Chile we drove up the coast towards Valparaiso
Wild camping at the cool rock formations “Arcon de Calán”
Enjoying an amazing sunset, as our adventure is coming to an end…
The next morning we went for a walk on the beach before driving towards Valparaiso – sea lions on the rocks
While Lance was for sale we kept doing small improvements, and posted it in the add. We also a Chilean sim card for the phones, so we could keep the add updated, and corresponds to potential buyers. As we travelled up the coast, we made some stops a long the way. We had decided, that we would not buy a plane ticket to Denmark, before we had a buyer for the van. At the same time, we wanted to go home before Christmas.
One of our last wild camping spots – at least on this trip
We also went to a mechanic, that could go over the van, to check if anything had to be repaired or changed. It was important for us to make sure, that everything was in order for the next owner, so that they would have a good start on their adventure.
Our first stop was in Valparaiso, where a couple would like to see the van. Since we were still on the road in the van, we could drive to the interested buyers, so they could see the van, and go for a test drive. Hitting city traffic in Valparaiso.
The steep and twisting rounds in Valparaiso was more a mental challenge for the driver, Lance didn’t care, he did just fine. Meet the interested couple from Valparaiso (right picture). Their plan was to begin the travel 2019, and they really wanted to get some inspiration. They invited us to say for two nights, and during that time we shared knowledge about South America, how to set up a camper and our budget for the trip. We an amazing time – thank you guys .
In the beginning of December the buyers got more seriously, and we were spending some time in Viña del Mar. We were back in the apartment, that we had also rented 1 year ago, when we were selling our motorcycles and buying the van. We have made a deal – Lance is SOLD! We ended up having two buyers for the van, and decided to sell to a couple from Holland, that would not arrive in Santiago until the 3rd of January 2019. They really wanted a vehicle, that was ready when they arrived. The buyers paid 1000 USD in deposit for the van, we bought our plan tickets home and could empty the van of all our personal belongings.
Trying to fit everything into 3 bags, not a chance = 4 bags (check in) it is, 2 hand luggage, 2 jackets and 2 motorcycle helmets – after 2 years, that is not so bad…
It was time to clean Lance. We also washed the pillow covers and curtains. Lance looks like new Ready for new adventures
The final step before we could fly home (flying home on the 11th of December), was to drive to Santiago to get the paperwork for the title change in order. It was time to drive to Santiago, where a company, called SuziSantiago, will provide the service for making the title change. But how does it really work, when we leave Chile before the new owners arrive?
We have sold the van for 8900 USD and additional 100 USD for storage. The new owner have payed a deposit of 1000 USD, final payment will be 8000 USD (we use TranserWise). We will make a Power of Attorney to SuziSantiago, so he can make the title transfer, when the buyers arrive from Holland. The service of SuziSantiago is 3% of the sales price (8900 USD), which we will pay in cash, before leaving Chile. We have also arrange for secure storage of the van from when we leave until the buyers arrive. After arrival the buyers can inspect and take the vehicle for a test drive, if everything is accordingly to the sales add, the buyers will transfer the last 8000 USD. The buyers also have to send prof of the money transfer to us, which will give the buyers, the right to use the vehicle. When we have received the money, we will confirm that to SuziSantiago, and the title transfer can take place. The buyers will have to cover all additional fees during the title change. We made a sales agreement with the buyers, where everything is specified, so there will not be any doubt between the buyers and us.
Goodbye Lance, you have been a true travel-buddy
It’s been great following along, Thanks!! Den in Canada
